No big screen in Jersey for rest of the World Cup
Jersey ScreeningsThere will be no outdoor big screen available in Jersey to watch matches during the remainder of the 2026 World Cup, the government has confirmed.
In the last few years, sports fans have become accustomed to big events being shown at Howard Davis Park, such as Euro 2024, Paris 2024 Olympics, and the Women's Euro 2025.
Although the Government of Jersey has provided "some funding" towards the initiative in the past, a spokesperson said the big screen was mainly financed by a private organiser.
However, it revealed the organiser "could not secure the additional sponsorship" it needed this time, and therefore a big screen would not go ahead for this tournament.
"Given the kick-off times of the remaining matches are generally less suitable for families and could run well into the night, additional taxpayer funding would not be appropriate," the spokesperson said.
"Town pubs and bars have invested in extending their licences for the tournament, and so there will be many venues where people can come together to watch the games."
