Part of the A14 closed after lorry hits bridge

A lorry caught fire after striking a bridge when it was involved in a collision with a second lorry on the A14 near Kettering

Part of the A14 has been closed in Northamptonshire following a collision involving two lorries where one struck a bridge and caught fire.

National Highways said the road had been closed shortly after 11:00 BST eastbound between junctions seven and nine near Kettering.

All emergency services including Northamptonshire Police and the air ambulance service attended the incident.

It said while the vehicle fire had been extinguished there was "significant" damage to roadside infrastructure and the road surface due to a large diesel spillage.

As a result of the incidents queues were seen on traffic cameras building on the A14

National Highways said a complex recovery and clear-up and repair operation would be ongoing and the road would remain closed for resurfacing works.

All vehicles had been recovered, it added.

Northamptonshire Police added: "Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being.

"Thank you for your patience."
