Isle of Man gears up for a week of Celtic festivities
Celtic GatheringYn Chruinnaght, the Isle of Man's festival of Celtic music, song, dance and language, returns all next week across venues in Peel, Douglas, Castletown and St Johns.
The festival was founded in 1978 and current president Bob Carswell hopes the event can follow in its roots, remain "proud of the road it has taken" and allow Manx culture to "develop in new ways".
Evenings are given over to ticketed concerts and traditional dance gatherings known as ceilis, while daytime brings free workshops, language sessions and street performances across Peel and Douglas.

Monday 27 July
The week opens with a joint concert from Donegal singer Cathal Ó Curráin and Manx fiddler Isla Callister, exploring musical links between Donegal and the Island, at the Centenary Centre in the evening.
Tuesday 28 July
An informal Song Night at the Masonic Hall brings together Manx and visiting performers for an evening of singing.
Wednesday 29 July
St German's Cathedral hosts a Celtic Concert & Ceili, with Scottish accordionist Sandy Brechin joined by the Mollag Band and Scran.
Thursday 30 July
The Celtic Songs of the Sea variety show at the Centenary Centre brings together the week's visiting acts alongside Manx performers, told through music, song, dance and poetry.
Friday 31 July
The choice is between the Mega Manx Ceili back at the Cathedral, or an acoustic concert from Welsh harp and fiddle duo Delyth & Angharad Jenkins at St John's Royal Chapel.
Saturday 1 August
Corrin Hall hosts the Peel Produce Show, judged that morning, while Peel Cathedral and its grounds host the free Saturday Gathering.
Festival chair Jo Callister said it was "a day filled with music, dance and cultural performances from local performers and visiting artists all within and around the grounds of Peel Cathedral." Sponsor Adam Horne, of Digital Group, said the produce show offered "a friendly, welcoming environment where people can share their skills." The evening closes with Orkney duo Saltfishforty in concert.
Sunday 2 August
The festival winds down with music on Peel Beach through the day, before the town's carnival parade takes over the promenade at 2pm.
