Warning after Broad Marsh trespass reports
BBCPolice have issued a safety warning after reports of people trespassing inside the former Broadmarsh shopping centre.
Nottinghamshire Police said it had received "a number of reports of trespass" at the site in Nottingham, with footage on social media appearing to show teenagers inside the building.
Nottinghamshire Police said it was working with Homes England, the government housing agency which owns the site, and its security.
In 2025, Homes England bought the site, which included the NCP car park and the former Bluecoat sixth form college site in Maid Marian Way. It said it had plans to transform it into about 1,000 homes, alongside up to 20,000 sq m of retail, office and community space.
'Extremely dangerous'
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the two sites are now earmarked for demolition, clearing the way for future redevelopment - which a planning agent said included plans to realign Maid Marian Way to provide four lanes.
Ch Insp Kylie Davies said: "The building is set to be demolished and we would encourage anyone against entering this building.
"Structures like this, especially during demolition, are extremely dangerous places to be."
Homes England said it had been made aware of a video circulating on social media "purportedly taken" from within the former shopping centre, which it was reviewing with its security contractor.
"We have 24/7 security patrolling the site, complemented by CCTV, and a perimeter security fence, which have been designed to prevent any unauthorised access," a spokesperson said.
"We take any alleged breach of security very seriously. Homes England, and its appointed contractors, will continue to deploy every measure necessary to ensure the site is secure."
Half of the former shopping centre has already been demolished to make way for the Green Heart - a park which opened in October 2024.
