Water company warns of smell while leak fixed
Guernsey WaterGuernsey Water has warned of a "whiff" while it works to fix a leaking valve in an underground sewage pumping station.
White Rock pump station, underneath North Beach car park, normally deals with 350 litres (77 gallons) of sewage every second, the water company said.
It said the station sent all the sewage from St Peter Port and St Martin's to the Belle Grave Wastewater Centre.
The company said the valve needed to be removed for repairs, and said a big yellow pump had been placed in the car park to "divert the flows" and allow workers to safely carry out repairs .
"Because all that sewage is flowing through the pipes, there is somewhat of a whiff in the area – hopefully the strong winds will clear it, but there's not much more we can do to stop it," it said.
It said it expected the work to be complete by the end of next week.
