Pokémon cards worth of hundreds of pounds and vinyl records have been stolen from a shop that was targeted twice in the same week.

Nottinghamshire Police said the cards were shoplifted from shelves at the store in Market Place, Newark, at about 16:00 BST on 4 April.

The vinyl was then taken and a window was broken in a burglary at the same shop between 17:30 on 9 April and 06:00 the following day.

Officers said they were now investigating whether the thefts were linked.

Cards related to the Japanese animation series have soared in value over recent years, with some selling for thousands of pounds.

The shoplifter has been described as a white man between 35 and 45, of stocky build and wearing a navy blue coat and jeans.

Sgt James Brown, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Small businesses like this are already facing considerable challenges, without the additional stress and expense caused by this kind of criminality.

"As we work to investigate these incidents and identify the people responsible, we urge any additional witnesses to come forward without delay."
