Police seize 20,000 prescription drugs after arrest

More than 20,000 prescription drugs have been seized during an investigation in Manchester, police said.

Greater Manchester Police said officers stopped a man they said was acting suspiciously on Park Crescent in Rusholme on Monday evening.

After his arrest, officers searched a property linked to the investigation and recovered what they believe were more than 20,000 prescription drugs, including diazepam, pregabalin and tramadol.

Police also seized cannabis, ecstasy tablets and £2,300 in cash.

Cash, suspected drugs and scales were among the items seized, police said.

Two men in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A, B and C drugs with intent to supply and remain in custody.

Chief Insp Rob MacGregor said officers had recovered a "substantial quantity of suspected illegal drugs" following the initial arrest.

He said the illegal supply of drugs could have a "devastating impact" on communities and added that the investigation was continuing.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact the force.
