Rescue trucks stuck in sea after child rescue

Two beach trucks have been recovered after becoming trapped in sand and sea while a warden rescued a child who was stuck in the mud.

After one vehicle became trapped at Brean beach, Somerset, a second truck was deployed but also became lodged in the thick mud on Wednesday.

Somerset Council, which is responsible for the beach warden service, said the child was taken to safety and no-one was injured.

A World War Two truck was used to recover both vehicles on Thursday, as first reported by Burnham-on-Sea.com.

A Somerset Council spokesperson said: "Our beach safety warden was rescuing a child who was trapped in the mud on an incoming tide.

"Crucially they got the child to safety, but unfortunately his vehicle became stuck and a further vehicle which went out to assist also became stuck.

"Both were caught by the tide. Thankfully nobody was injured."
