What do you give the man who has everything? One woman who had lunch with George Clooney hopes the answer is Scotland football tops, after gifting him and his family personalised strips.

Claire Phale, 35, won a place at a small group lunch with the Hollywood A-lister in an online auction to raise money for charity Social Bite.

Clooney is in Scotland for two events to raise money for the Edinburgh-based charity which aims to help homeless people access housing, food and jobs.

Speaking after the lunch, the Edinburgh mum said they discussed the actor's charity work and women's football.

Phale said that, as well as a Scotland top for Clooney, she also gifted him one for his human rights lawyer wife Amal Clooney, as well as their children Ella and Alexander.

She told BBC Scotland News: "I got them all Scotland strips, so we were talking about Scotland getting to the World Cup and how women's football is so big in America.

"Hopefully now he is part of the Tartan Army and we've got that little bit of Hollywood stardust behind us."

Phale said she grew up watching Clooney star as Doug Ross in the medical drama ER alongside her mum Angela, who is a big fan.

She said the actor was "suave" and "charming" and even made time to take photos with her mum after the lunch, which she said has earned her "big daughter points".

Clooney previously appeared in Edinburgh in 2015 as part of his work with Social Bite. He returned in 2018 to collect an award for his charity work.

Fellow A-lister Leonardo Di Caprio has also visited the charity.

During his return to Scotland this week, Clooney attended a fundraising dinner at the Gleneagles Hotel on Wednesday, where he discussed his Hollywood career as well as his humanitarian work.

On Thursday evening, the Gravity star will be at the British Business Awards in Edinburgh, which aims to raise a minimum of £1m for Social Bite.

The charity posted about Clooney's visit to its prototype village which provides housing for homeless people in small, sustainable homes.

The first Social Bite Village was launched in 2018, as an alternative to temporary accommodation for the homeless.

In an Instagram post, Social Bite shared images of the charity's founder John Littlejohn with Clooney and Geldof.

The charity said: "George Clooney, prior to his address at the 4th annual Gleneagles Gala Dinner for Social Bite, checking out one of the prototype homes from the new Social Bite Village with the charity's founder, Josh Littlejohn and Sir Bob Geldof."
