Work to repair a collapsed retaining wall on a main road in Staffordshire could take up to six weeks, a council has said.

A section of the dry stone wall next to the A520 Cheadle Road in Wetley Rocks failed in April, with barriers and two-way traffic lights put in place as a result.

The traffic management, near the Powys Arms Pub, will remain in place during the repair work, which starts this week, said Staffordshire County Council.

The wall will be strengthened with a concrete backing to allow it to better cope with traffic levels and the weight of vehicles, it stated, adding that not all of the work will be visible as part will be below road level.

Councillor Patrick Allen said the priority was to get the repairs completed as soon as possible, while traffic management was needed to keep drivers and pedestrians safe.

"I want to thank people for their patience, and I would ask that drivers take extra care when passing through the area," said Allen.
