Free Jersey Museum entry to end in July
BBCFree admission to a museum is set to end following a decision by the Government of Jersey to stop funding.
It comes after the number of people who went to Jersey Museum almost doubled in the first year of free entry under a trial scheme.
Amy Hall, chair of Jersey Heritage Board of Trustees, said: "We regard the trial as a big success and had hoped it would become a permanent fixture at Jersey Museum."
The Economic Development Minister has been approached for a comment.
Admission fees at Jersey Museum would be re-introduced from 1 July 2026 with free entry for Jersey Heritage Members and children under six years old.
The government started funding the cost of admission fees in July 2024 as part of a year-long trial which was extended until the end of March 2026.
Hall said: "The Government-initiated trial was introduced to reflect Jersey's Heritage Strategy, which seeks to provide greater access to heritage.
"However, due to well-publicised funding pressures, the Department of Economy can no longer support free entry. "
She said unfortunately the charity could not afford to fund it independently.
Jersey Heritage said prices had been agreed by the Board of Trustees and would be confirmed in their next board meeting in July.
The prices were:
- Adult - £15.45
- Senior - £14.45
- Child/Student - £10.25
- Family ticket (two adults and two children) - £46.45
- Free to Jersey Heritage Members and children under six
