A play park has reopened following a year of maintenance and delays, its constable has confirmed.

Sandy Park, near Long Beach in Gorey, was taken over by the parish last June after the States of Jersey's Infrastructure Department said it would not renew its lease.

However the parish were unable to complete acquiring the land nearly a year later and the park's equipment was fenced off awaiting maintenance work, prompting an apology from Constable Mark Labey..

Now reopened in time for the summer holidays, Labey said the play park was "in pristine condition" and he was "looking forward to seeing lots of people down there".

Labey said: "It's a beautiful spot. I'm sure most people have visited it at some stage in their life and the view and the outlook from the Sandy Park is second to none in Jersey.

"Just to be able to sit there and relax is wonderful to be able to do."

The constable said getting to the finish line had been hard but worth the time.

"There were various bits and bobs that went on but mostly we had an insurance issue - the parish was not sufficiently insured," he said.

Labey added the parish had been in "constant conversation" with neighbours about the works and asked users to keep them in mind when making noise later on in the evening.
