Man charged with murder after 80-year-old's death

A man has been charged with murder after an alleged stabbing in Gloucester.

Lawrence Robert Whayman, 55, of Alney Terrace in Gloucester, is set to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court later after the death of an 80-year-old man.

Gloucestershire Police said it was called to a house in Alney Terrace at about 21:00 BST on Thursday to a report a man had suffered suspected stab wounds. The 80-year-old was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where he died from his injuries.

A spokesperson for the force said officers will remain at the scene throughout the weekend.
