Paramedics reunited with baby born on staircase
Jake Zuckerman / BBCAn ambulance crew has been reunited with the baby they helped deliver on a staircase.
Elli Jordan went into labour prematurely at just 37 weeks at her home in Lincolnshire in February.
The 19-year-old was due to give birth a few weeks later but, after her waters broke at her house, her partner Connor Woodward called 999.
"I was terrified but I think, once the crew arrived, they kept me really reassured and I wasn't as panicked as I was when it was just us there. It made me feel like I was OK," she said.
For ambulance technician Zoe Spilsbury, it was her first home delivery.
"We arrived and found mum at the top of the stairs and we normally have time to go to hospital but, on this occasion, it was quite evident that baby was definitely coming," she said.
She admitted she was scared when she arrived at the scene.
"Once I was in it, you just get on with it," she said.
"You learn it all at training school and university but, when you're in the situation, you've just got no choice but to get on with it, have you?"
Following the birth, the crew carefully monitored mother and son for complications, as they took the pair to hospital.
Four-months on, the ambulance crew paid a visit to see the family at their Sleaford home.
Paramedic Stephen Peacock said it was good to see them all again.
"A lot of the time when we take the patient to hospital, we don't know what happens," he said.
"We part ways at that point, so to come back and see everyone happy and healthy is just the best feeling."
