Man jailed for seven years for rape and sexual assault

A man who raped a woman in Edinburgh and sexually assaulted another in Aberdeen has been jailed for seven years.

Jonathan Spink, 37, targeted the Edinburgh victim at a flat, when she was intoxicated through alcohol and prescription medication and incapable of consenting to sex, in 2021.

He had previously carried out the sexual assault on another woman at an address in Aberdeen.

At the High Court in Edinburgh, judge Lord Summers told Spink it was clear what he had done had a "very serious impact".

Spink, of Edinburgh, had denied the offences.

However, he was found guilty of both the rape and the sexual assault.

Spink raped the woman at the flat in Edinburgh on 31 October 2021 when she was drifting in and out of sleep.

The sex attack in Aberdeen happened between December 2017 and January the following year.

Defence counsel Victoria Dow told the court: "There is clearly no alternative to a custodial sentence. Mr Spink is aware of that."

She said Spink has no previous convictions. He was also placed on the sex offenders register.
