A 70-year-old pilot died when his plane crashed "immediately after take-off", according to investigators.

The man, from Leeds, was killed in the crash at an airfield near Sherburn in Elmet on 2 November 2025.

According to a new statement from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) on take-off the aircraft, a Europa XS, G-BZNY, "pitched up into a high nose up attitude" before it "departed controlled flight and struck the ground on the airfield".

The AAIB said a wider investigation into the accident was "well advanced", and that the final report would be issued in due course.

The man, who has not been named, was believed to be flying alone when the plane crashed.
