Plans for new city centre arts and events space
Worcester City CouncilPlans for investment in a new arts space are taking shape, as part of a wider city centre regeneration project.
The council said it would work with other organisations on its vision for a safe space for outdoor events, along with creative and play experiences at Angel Place in Worcester.
It would provide opportunities for performances, events and activities led by creative organisations, as well as space for younger people to play and socialise, the authority said.
Hannah Phillips, chief executive and artistic director of Scala Arts Centre, said that outdoor arts events connected communities and created a "collective sense of belonging."
Phillips added that they were looking forward to transforming Angel Place into a "safe, dynamic and playful cultural hub."
The council said it would work alongside a range of local partners at Angel Place, including the new Scala Arts Centre, Worcester BID, Starburst the owners of Friary Walk, and Play Worcester.
It stated that safety measures would be installed, so the space could be used all year round for smaller community events as well as larger outdoor festivals.
The aim was to encourage further investment from businesses and boost the economic growth of the local area.
"We want Angel Place to become a place where people can come together in a safe space to meet family and friends and enjoy a wide range of events and activities throughout the year, said councillor Hannah Cooper.
Worcester City Council agreed the design principles for the project at a meeting earlier this week.
The changes to Angel Place would happen in 2027 when building works at the Scala Arts Centre have been completed, the authority said.
