Country singer 'riding wave' after chart success

A country-pop singer says she is "riding the wave" as she prepares for her first UK tour in the wake of chart success and a Glastonbury appearance.

Lisa Travers, known professionally as Lisa T, will be performing in Glasgow, London, Birmingham and Manchester, throughout June.

It comes after her 2025 album Nice to Meet You…Again got to number eight in the official UK country artists' album chart, something she said she was "really proud of".

Travers, from Sandbach, Cheshire, told BBC Radio Stoke she had never believed she would get to a position where she was organising a nationwide tour.

"I'm always wanting the next thing," she explained. "Sometimes I have to sit back and think 'Wow, look how far I've come, this is amazing', and just be grateful for where I'm at."

As well as breaking into the charts last year, her she got to perform at Glastonbury Festival in 2022.

"There's not been just one significant thing that's pushed me," she added. "I'm just riding the wave.

"There's lots of great moments and there are times where I'm like, 'Why am I still doing this', because it's not going the way I want.

"Then there will be something else that comes in, like an opportunity to play at the Cavern Club [in Liverpool], and that's when I'm like, 'That's why I'm doing this'."

Travers said it was her father who got her interested in country music when she was young.

He had moved to the UK from Ireland, she said, bringing his love of Irish folk and country music with him.

Travers said the first album she bought was one of Shania Twain's, adding: "It's just always been in me and it's a big part of me."

Asked about her upcoming tour, she said she was currently in a "really good headspace with it" after initially becoming overwhelmed with all the admin.

"I said to myself 'look, if I'm going to do this, I'm going to make sure I enjoy it'," she said.

"For these last few months, I have been doing a lot of admin but I have been really enjoying it. I'm just looking forward to it."
