A four-year-old boy and a woman have been struck and injured by a motorcycle in a suspected hit-and-run, police have said.

Northumbria Police were called at about 15:30 BST on Saturday to reports of a collision on Sea Road, next to Ocean Beach Pleasure Park in South Shields.

The boy was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening and the woman, in her 30s, sustained minor injuries. She was also taken to hospital.

The motorcyclist, along with two other bikers, left the scene. A section of the road was briefly closed between Ocean Road and Beach Road but later reopened.
