Couple found dead in home were 'inseparable'

The family of a couple found dead at a house in Blackburn have described them as "inseparable".

Ismail Ahmed Leli, 80, and Fatima Leli, 78, were found with stab wounds at a house in Hardman Street at about 08:20 BST on Monday.

Lancashire Police launched a murder investigation and arrested a man in his 40s. He remains in police custody.

Paying tribute, the family said: "We are heartbroken to share that we have lost our parents, the oldest and most cherished members of our family."

"On behalf of our entire family, we are heartbroken to share that we have lost our parents, the oldest and most cherished members of our family," the statement said.

"Their loss has left a void that words cannot describe, and we are still coming to terms with what has happened."

They thanked the police for "their diligence, professionalism and compassion" as well as local councillors.

They also thanked the wider community for its "kindness and support", as well as Masjid-e-Quwwatul mosque, which they said had been a "source of strength, comfort and practical support".

Police said a dedicated team of officers was carrying out CCTV, house-to-house and forensic inquiries.

Officers have appealed for anyone with any information to contact them, but do not believe there is a wider threat to the community.
