Search for motorist after man dies in hit-and-run
GoogleA man was killed when he was hit by a car which was then driven away.
The 68-year-old was hit by a dark-coloured vehicle on Stratford Road, in Hall Green, Birmingham, on Thursday evening, police said.
Paramedics were unable to help the man, who was found in critical condition, and he died at the scene.
An investigation has been carried out overnight to try and identify the car and driver involved. A stretch of the road was closed but has since reopened.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called at 20.39 BST where paramedics found the man being cared for by off-duty doctors.
Det Sgt Julie Lyman, from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts today are with the family of the man who died, and we're supporting his family.
"It's vital that we identify the car and driver involved as soon as possible. If you are that driver, I'd urge you to do the right thing and come and call us straight away."
West Midlands Police said the incident happened near Aldi and the road's junction with Wycome Road.
Lyman added: "If anyone who was in the area has mobile phone, dashcam or other footage from the time, we'd also like to speak to them as soon as possible."
