A man and a woman sustained serious injuries after being stabbed in Highweek Street, Newton Abbot

A man has appeared in court after being charged over a double stabbing in a town centre.

Devon & Cornwall Police were called out to Highweek Street in Newton Abbot after reports of an altercation involving a group of people just after midnight on Monday - during which a man and woman suffered serious injuries.

Officers said Aidan Seal, 27, of Berrys Wood, Newton Abbot, had been charged with two counts of section 18 wounding with intent and one count of possessing a bladed article in a public place.

Seal appeared at Plymouth Magistrates' Court and has been remanded in custody. He is due to appear before Exeter Crown Court on 4 June.
