The Lancashire Hotpots have said they want to throw their flat caps in the ring and have a go at Eurovision next year, despite another dismal result for the UK entry at the most recent contest.

The comedy folk band have spent 19 years celebrating the county's humour and modern life, with songs including Chippy Tea, He's Turned Emo and Has The Bin Man Bin Mon?

Frontman Bernard Thresher said: "We don't play games - this is a serious bid from the Hotpots.

"Our brand of highly visible rainbow-waistcoated, flatcapped mayhem is just what the Eurovision needs."

'New ditty'

The band are well known on the music festivals circuit, and have played at Glastonbury, Kendal Calling, CarFest and Beat-Herder Festival.

"In a unique way, our songs connect with people, not just in Lancashire and Cumbria and beyond," Thresher told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"I think we could strike up a new ditty that would connect everybody and take us to the winning position."

Look Mum No Computer, aka musician Sam Battle, received one solitary point, ending up in last place at this year's competition in Vienna on Saturday night.

It is the third time the UK has been at the bottom of the table since 2020. A UK entry has made the top 10 only once since 2010.

Songs can be submitted via video to the the BBC by artists who want to take part in the competition.

There are no public auditions or televised national song contests before the UK entry is revealed - so will we be surprised with a song by the Hotpots next year?

We shall have to wait and see.

A taste of the Hotpots - Chippy Tea chorus

It's Friday night

And I want a chippy tea

Chippy tea, chippy tea

I wants a chippy tea

But you keep givin' me posh nosh

It don't agree with me

I don't want lobster thermidor

With your raspberry coulis

It's Friday night

I'm within my rights

I wants a chippy tea
