Police found cash and drugs during the raid

More than £50,000 in cash has been found inside a safe during a police raid.

A suspect tried to destroy a mobile phone in his bedroom when officers raided the property in Dovecot, Liverpool, on Thursday morning, Merseyside Police said.

Cannabis resin and bladed items to produce and conceal drugs were also seized.

A 29-year-old man allegedly tried to injure officers when they arrested him on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class B cannabis and possession of criminal property.

He was also detained for obstructing police and has since been released under investigation, pending financial and forensic inquiries.

Insp Ivan Martin, from Merseyside Police, appealed for information, saying officers "removed a huge amount of cash, drugs and other devices that could have been used to inflict serious harm and disruption on our streets".

"Drug dealers are motivated solely by profit, with no regard for the damage they cause," he added.
