Aiden Evans was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday

A prison worker has been jailed for over four years for sexually assaulting other members of staff.

Aiden Evans, 30, of Turnberry Court in Bentley, had pleaded guilty at Sheffield Crown Court to nine counts of sexual assault and two counts of attempted sexual assault and was sentenced on Friday to 49 months in prison.

Evans' offences took place both in his workplace at HMP Moorland in Doncaster and at work social events held elsewhere, police said.

Simon McDonnell, the prison's governor, said: "We take all allegations of this nature extremely seriously and will always work closely with law enforcement to ensure those who abuse their position face the full consequences of their actions."

"Aiden Evans' behaviour was completely abhorrent and wholly at odds with the values and standards we expect of everyone who works in prisons," McDonnell added.

'Predatory behaviour'

Evans was jailed following an investigation by South Yorkshire Police's prison anti-corruption unit, which uncovered multiple victims.

In interviews with officers, Evans attempted to pass off his behaviour as "banter", before further questions to him highlighted discrepancies in his version of events, according to police.

Det Con Scott Jarvis, the officer in charge of the case, said: "Evans denied his offending throughout the investigation, but succumbed to the mounting evidence and sheer volume of victims who came forward to speak out against him.

"Without them, this individual would no doubt have gone on to continue his offending and escalating predatory behaviour."

Evans was also handed multiple lifetime restraining orders which prevent him from contacting his victims.
