Thousands expected to attend Pride celebrations

Thousands of people are expected to attend this weekend's Notts Pride celebrations.

Now in its 29th year, the biggest free Pride event in the East Midlands will feature its regular march through the city centre, which begins at 12:00 BST from Lister Gate on Saturday.

Following a theme of "bolder and brighter", this year's event will have an expanded family area and extend into Sneinton Market and the city's new Rainbow Quarter.

Leigh Ellis, from Notts Pride, said organisers were "looking forward to welcoming thousands of people to the city".

"Notts Pride is a chance for our whole community to come together, celebrate who we are and show the strength, creativity and diversity of LGBTQ+ people across Nottinghamshire," he said.

"As we enter our 29th year, we're proud to continue growing the event while keeping our core mission at the centre of all we do - creating a welcoming space where everyone can be themselves."

People are encouraged to gather from 11:00 at Lister Gate ahead of the march, which will run through Old Market Square, the Lace Market and the Rainbow Quarter in Hockley, before arriving in Sneinton.

Nottingham City Transport said there will be "two phases of diversions" affecting Green, Lilac, Navy, Orange, Red and Turquoise lines in the city centre area from about 11:00 to 15:30.
