Haystack 'suspected arson' investigated by police

Police are investigating a potential arson attack after a haystack fire in Nottinghamshire.

Crews from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service were dealing with a blaze in a field near the Saxondale island, near Bingham, and Cropwell Butler on Friday evening.

On Friday, Nottinghamshire Police said the fire was "currently under control", adding officers were "currently investigating the incident as suspected arson".

Members of the public were advised to avoid the area, and any witnesses or anyone with information on the incident have been asked to contact police.

The fire service said crews about 1,200 bales of hay were involved in the fire.

"One fire engine remains on scene and crews are expected to be there for some time as they continue to monitor and extinguish the fire safely," a statement on Saturday said.
