Phone boxes to honour 'Hometown Heroes'
KCOMNine phone boxes are to be named in honour of people from Hull and East Yorkshire.
The cream KCOM kiosks will commemorate locals, such as BAFTA-winning actor Robert Aramayo and a nurse, who spent more than 60 years working at Hull Royal Infirmary.
People were asked to nominate their Hometown Heroes, with the list whittled down by a judging panel to the final nine.
A vintage K6 box will be unveiled each month from now until Christmas.
KCOM chief executive Richard Schäfer said he was "absolutely blown away by the response".
"We've seen some fantastic nominations for so many people deserving of the title Hometown Hero, which shows what a great local community we have here in Hull and East Yorkshire – a community we've been proud to be part of for more than 120 years," he said.
"This year marks the 90th anniversary of our cream K6s and what better way of celebrating these symbols of local pride then dedicating nine of them to people who've helped inspire our local communities."

She described having a phone box near her home dedicated to her as "absolutely wonderful".
"I can't believe it to be honest," she said.
"It's lovely to think that so many people thought of nominating me.
"I've loved every minute of my time as a nurse in Hull and it's lovely to think that people appreciate it, too."
Aramayo hit the headlines when he was named best actor for his portrayal of John Davidson in the film I Swear and also received the Rising Star award at the 2026 Bafta Awards.
The phone boxes will also honour:
- Jess Park, England footballer from Brough
- Chelsey Dalee and Dawn Thompson, who set-up a charity to help those bereaved by suicide
- Dean Hoggard, Life For A Kid Hull charity leader
- Jerry Thompson, from The Hull Fishing Heritage Centre
- Jo Kent, Humber Wellbeing Hub founder
- Amy Owen, dedicated brain tumour charity fundraiser
- The Santa Squad, a young community volunteer quartet made up of Phoebe, Laurie, Ava and Thea
