Dog walkers reported their pets falling ill after walking them at Kingsway Orchard

An investigation has been launched after dogs became unwell after a man was seen pouring bleach on the ground at a nature reserve.

Gloucestershire Police said an off-duty officer saw the man pouring the bleach and also walking around with loaves of bread at Kingsway Orchard in Gloucester at about 11:45 BST on Monday.

The force said a man in his 30s from the city has been arrested on suspicion of administering a poisonous substance to a protected animal. He has since been bailed pending further inquiries.

The force has appealed for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident at the reserve, off Lyneham Drive in Kingsway, to come forward.
