Photos show rare partial solar eclipse
BBC Weather Watchers/Terry FilmmakerAs the partial solar eclipse graced our skies, crowds from across the North East and Cumbria came out in force to witness the moment.
From the UK, most people saw about 90% of the sun covered by the moon, which peaked shortly after 19:00 BST.
An eclipse happens when the sun, moon and earth are in alignment. The moon casts a shadow on the earth as it passes between the two, completely or partially blocking out the sun.
