Man in his 70s dies in 'large fire' in Cotswolds

A man has died in a "large fire" in a Cotswolds town, police have said.

Emergency services were called to the blaze in fields behind Berrington Road and Castle Gardens in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, at about 17:38 BST on Monday.

Gloucestershire Police said the man who died in the blaze at the scene was in his 70s and from the local area.

They said the man, who was from the area, was confirmed dead at the scene and there was no suspicion of any "third party involvement in the death".

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) described the fire as "large", adding 13 fire engines were used to tackle the blaze at the height of the incident.

Nathaniel Hooton, GFRS deputy chief fire officer, said crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service supported and "worked extremely hard to bring the fire under control".

The man's family and the coroner had been informed, police confirmed.
