New section of A417 Missing Link project to open
Missing LinkA major road project will reach an important milestone later this month with drivers able to use a new section of dual carriageway for the first time.
The A417 Missing Link scheme will eventually replace the heavily-congested single carriageway with a new three-mile (4.8km) dual carriageway between Gloucester and Cirencester.
From 26 June, traffic will be moved from the existing A417 carriageway to the first significant section of new road at the Ullenwood junction.
At the same time the A417 will be closed from the A436 and A46 Brockworth junction to the Air Balloon roundabout from 18:00 BST on the 26 June until 06:00 BST on Monday 29 June, with drivers warned of "significant delays".
Celine Acard, National Highways senior project manager, said: "We advise people to plan ahead."
Narrower lanes and a 40mph restriction will be in place on the temporary route, which will be in place for at least five weeks, before traffic is then switched onto the new section of the A417.
The Missing Link project is expected to be finished in spring 2027.
Missing Link project"The progress made on the A417 Missing Link has been truly significant, and this latest milestone reflects the dedication and collaboration of everyone involved in delivering this vital scheme," Accard said.
"Once completed, the upgrade will bring many benefits that will transform journeys, improve reliability and safety, and bring long-term benefits for local communities, businesses and visitors alike.
"By switching traffic onto this new section now, it enables us to keep the road open for the travelling public, while minimising disruption and protecting our workforce."
