'Israel reacts with fury' and 'Air traffic collapse'
Several of Wednesday's papers lead on the fallout from Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband's announcement that the UK will impose sanctions on illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. The Times says Israel has "reacted with fury", describing the Labour government as "hostile". The paper also highlights comments from Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis, who says the measure will embolden those "who use hatred as a weapon against Jews". Like several of today's papers, the Times also carries a photo of Prince George on his first day at Eton College.
The i lead with "Israeli fury after UK accuses settlers of ethnic cleansing". It also highlights the foreign secretary's accusation that the Israeli government is "turning a blind eye" to the actions of "settler terrorists". It says the announcement could lead to Andy Burnham's "first major dispute with Trump".
The prime minister has written in the Guardian that the UK has been "fearful of being accused of being anti-Israel" and that he would "not stand by as horrific suffering continues". The UK is among 12 nations in the process of imposing sanctions following "a summer of intense diplomacy against a backdrop of increasing settler violence in the West Bank", the Guardian reports.
"Miliband accused of putting Jews in UK in danger" is the headline of the Daily Mail, which accuses the foreign secretary of "caving in to Left-wing activists". The paper also spotlights the Chief Rabbi's words, who called it "truly a dark day for British Jews".
The Metro writes that Miliband set out how a two-state solution in the region is the government's "North Star". The foreign secretary told MPs he is a "proud British Jew" but felt a "deep sense of shame" about the condition of the Palestinians.
The Daily Express also hones in on criticism of the announcement from the British Jewish community. Miliband was pressed on whether he expected the government's toughened stance on Israel to result in an increased threat to British Jews during his Commons appearance on Tuesday.
Also featured in the top slot on several of Wednesday's front pages is air traffic control issues around the UK. "Air traffic collapse grounds flights" is the Daily Telegraph's lead story, with the fault meaning "tens of thousands of airline passengers were left stranded last night".
Tuesday's disruption at airports also dominates the front page of the Sun. It says there is "fury at latest jet farce" which follows "a string of similar outages" with the national air traffic control service. Delays and cancellations are expected to continue into Wednesday.
Another spike in inflation could be looming for the UK economy, warns the governor of the Bank of England. Andrew Bailey's intervention is the lead story in the Financial Times - he told MPs that the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, as well as extreme weather, could increase the strain on the public finances.
Tom Jones is "furious he's been kicked out of his chair" on talent show The Voice, the Daily Star reports. The Welsh singer reportedly resisted being ousted from the programme.
According to the Daily Mirror, the Duke of Sussex and King Charles "have not spoken" since the prince return to the UK. The papers dubs the story a "royal rumble exclusive".
