Homes badly damaged after wildfire spreads to street

Homes have been badly damaged after a fire broke out in a field and spread to nearby properties.

The blaze started at about 14:30 BST on Sunday adjacent to School Close in Kenninghall, near Diss.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said eight crews were sent and the fire was out by about 16:15.

The service said two homes suffered "significant damage" due to the fire spreading and aerial pictures showed the roofs of two homes destroyed.

A service spokesperson said: "The fire moved quickly and our crews worked hard to protect further properties, which sadly also suffered some damage, but this was limited thanks to firefighting tactics."

The East of England Ambulance Service said a rapid response vehicle attended following reports of a minor injury, however, following an assessment the patient made their own way to hospital.

The village hall was opened for anyone affected by the incident.

Crews in Norfolk were called out to fires in the open more than 20 times on Sunday alone as exceptionally dry weather continued over the weekend.

Temperatures are set to rise further in the coming days.
