Hull City fans, including John Drinkall, have started arriving in London for the Championship play-off final

Hundreds of Hull City fans have arrived in London ahead of the Championship play-off final on Saturday.

The Tigers are set to take on Middlesbrough after Southampton were thrown out of the play-offs by the English Football League having admitted spying on their semi-final opponents.

As part of the pre-match preparations, the Dolphin Pub near King's Cross has been rebranded in a nod to Hull City's former stadium Boothferry Park.

John Drinkall, the organiser behind the London pub's makeover, said: "It's just everything. It means so much for the club to do well."

The family-run pub has been temporarily renamed the "Fer Ark".

As the Boothferry Park stadium aged, letters fell off the main sign until only "fer ark" were left standing, leading fans to adopt it as its nickname.

The pub was filling up with fans dressed in Hull City shirts on Friday.

"We want to make a full weekend of it so we were always going to come down on Friday and go right the way through... we don't go back till Sunday," Drinkall said.

Drinkall's first game was in 1982, but his wife has been supporting the team for even longer.

"I'm more nervous than I was before," he said.

"Middlesbrough have a second chance that they didn't deserve so they have nothing to lose. That could be dangerous."

Danny Speck has flown all the way from Dubai for the final

Julian Daniel lives in London and has a Hull City season ticket.

He normally travels back to Hull for every home game, so described the final as a "home fixture".

Daniel said: "I've been in London since 1981 but I had a season ticket since I was 12 years old and a home game for me is a 250-mile round trip.

"After my lifelong season ticket holder father died, I still carried on coming up."

Fans from as far away as Chicago and Toronto are also flying the Hull City flag in the Fer Ark.

Danny Speck has flown in from Dubai just to watch the Tigers.

"I used one day of annual leave. I set off from Dubai at 5am," he said.

"I will arrive in Dubai at 8:30am on Monday and go straight to the office. It's 100% worth it. If I missed this and we won I would regret it forever."

The match kicks off at 15:30 BST on Saturday 23 May and there will be full coverage on BBC Radio Humberside from 14:00 BST.
