Huge recycling centre fire breaks out in Fife
Fife Jammer LocationsA huge fire has broken out at a recycling plant in Fife.
Emergency services received reports of the blaze at Lower Melville Wood Landfill Site near Ladybank at about 13:35.
Twelve fire engines and specialist resources attended and the A92 between Melville Lodges and Ladybank and the B937 at Eden Bridge to the A91 have been closed.
Police Scotland have asked drivers to find alternative routes.
The fire service said the blaze was spread over approximately 200m x 300m (656ft x 984ft) of landfill waste.
Images of large flames towering from afar and thick clouds of grey smoke billowing into the air have circulated on social media.
Dozens of locals in Fife have reported seeing smoke from nearby towns and even across the water from Portobello in Edinburgh.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service asked locals to keep their windows and doors closed as they battle to get the fire under control.
A spokesperson said: "There are no reported casualties, and crews remain at the scene."
