Three men have been jailed for their part in a machete attack that left the victim with severe injuries.

West Yorkshire Police said they were part of a group that deliberately drove a car at the 23-year-old man before attacking him with machetes. He almost lost his leg after the incident in Dewsbury in May last year.

Sabeel Ayub, 33, Faizaan Bashir, 26, and Fahim Iqbal, 35, were sentenced at Leeds Crown Court last week after admitting wounding with intent.

Detectives are still trying to trace two other men in connection with the assault.

Police were called to reports of men fighting on Ravens Crescent in Scout Hill on 15 May last year in "broad daylight" while children were playing nearby.

Det Con Callum Wallace from Kirklees CID said: "It was clearly a planned and targeted attack that showed the perpetrators were prepared to use extreme levels of violence to meet their ends."

Ayub, of Scout Hill, Dewsbury, was jailed for 14 years and eight months with a further five years on licence, while Bashir, of Lee Road, Ravensthorpe, and Iqbal, of Coal Pit Mews, Carlinghow, Batley, were given 12-year prison sentences.

The two men who remain wanted over the altercation are Faisal Ali, 33, from Dewsbury and Kessar Iqbal, 33, from Dewsbury but with a last known address in Airdrie, Scotland.
