Three teenagers have been arrested after a fight broke out in Shrewsbury town centre.

A dispersal order has been put in place in the area by West Mercia Police, until 20:45 BST on Friday, to prevent further trouble.

The move comes after officers were called to The Quarry at 19:20 on Wednesday, following reports of large-scale disorder.

Two 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy were later arrested at the scene, on suspicion of affray.

Two remain in police custody, while one of the 16 year old suspects has been released on bail.

The force said the Section 34 Dispersal Order will provide extra powers to the police to exclude individuals, aged over 10, who are deemed to be involved in anti-social behaviour.

Ch Insp Matt Painter said: "The disorder seen in the town centre yesterday was completely unacceptable, however, officers quickly arrested three people in connection with the incident.

"Our officers will remain in the area throughout the day to provide reassurance and ensure the town remains a safe place for everyone."
