A man in his 30s has died following a fire in the emergency department (ED) of a Belfast hospital.

On Wednesday evening, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) were called to a blaze in the ground floor of the Royal Victoria Hospital.

The NIFRS said a man was injured following a fire in the toilets of the ED. BBC News NI understands he was treated for burns. He has since died in hospital.

Police say they are not treating his death as suspicious. The main entrance of the ED is now open.
