Two people survived a light aircraft crash with minor injuries, emergency services have said.

Essex Police said it was called to Clacton Airfield at about 12:10 BST after the small two-seater plane crashed in a field.

The fire service, which also attended, said there were no flames coming out of the plane, only smoke, and crews made the scene safe by stopping fuel from leaking.

No-one was trapped, the fire spokesperson said, and the pair were left in the care of the ambulance service.

Police said that further inquiries into the crash would be led by the Air Accident Investigation Branch.

Update 25 April: A previous version of this story reported that police were called at about 00:10 BST. We have amended the article, after Essex Police clarified that the time initially provided in its press release was incorrect.
