Hartlepool United made it two wins from two in the National League with a nervy victory over Aldershot Town.

Both teams needed time to settle but it was Aldershot who found some rhythm towards the end of the first half, threatening the Hartlepool net with efforts from Michael Stickland, Michee Efete and Kwaku Frimpong.

The visitors came out fighting after the interval though, and Chris Popov fired into the side netting as a warning.

The deadlock was then broken by Corey McKeown after 69 minutes. Will Harris saw his half-volley palmed away by Shots goalkeeper Nick Hayes but only as far as Brooklyn Ilunga, who sent in a cross for McKeown to head home.

Aldershot looked to claim a share of the points two minutes from time when Basil Tuma was sent tumbling in the area by Neo Eccleston, but Marcus Dinanga fired the resulting penalty kick over the bar.
