Summary

An area of low pressure will lie close to the northwest of the British Isles bringing some rain or showers, mainly in the north, and strong southwesterly winds for northern and some western waters with gales in the far northwest. Winds will ease through Saturday as the low moves away and a ridge of high pressure builds from the southwest, with fair conditions for most areas by Sunday.

Strong winds warnings are in effect in the following locations:
  • From Cape Wrath to Rattray Head including Orkney
  • Rattray Head to Berwick on Tweed
  • St Davids Head to Great Ormes Head, including St Georges Channel
  • Great Ormes Head to the Mull of Galloway
  • Isle of Man
  • Lough Foyle to Carlingford Lough
  • The Mull of Galloway to Mull of Kintyre including the Firth of Clyde and the North Channel
  • Mull of Kintyre to Ardnamurchan Point
  • The Minch
  • Ardnamurchan Point to Cape Wrath including the Outer Hebrides
  • Shetland Isles
  • For Coastal areas up to 60 nautical miles from Lerwick, Shetland
