Oldham ended their first season back in the Football League with a 3-0 victory over Accrington as goalkeeper Mat Hudson kept a 19th clean sheet, setting a new club record.

Defender Dynel Simeu broke the deadlock in the 26th minute with a brilliant header across goalkeeper Oliver Wright, thumping home Kane Taylor's diagonal ball.

Oldham were in control of the game but did not add to their lead until the 64th minute, when Taylor rounded off a flowing move with a side-footed finish into the top corner, after Kai Payne and Tom Pett combined well in the build-up.

Defender Will Sutton, who had been deployed up front after veteran striker Joe Garner was substituted early in the second half, completed the scoring with a header from a corner that he had earned through good hold-up play.

Hudson only had routine saves to make to preserve his shut-out, until late in the game when he made a brilliant double stop to first deny Conor Grant from distance and then Paddy Madden from the rebound.

The result means a top-half finish for the Latics, who secured 10th spot, while their opponents ended the campaign in 16th.
