Cambridge United held off a fightback to beat Wigan 3-2 on the U's return to League One.
The newly-promoted hosts made a fast start with an opener inside three minutes. A corner was nodded back into the box, allowing Mamadou Jobe to head the ball into the path of defensive partner Kell Watts, who fired in across Joe Day.
A second goal arrived on 34 minutes as Isaac Heath led a break from the halfway line before finding Louis Appere, who slid a finish beneath Day.
Heath added Cambridge's third seven minutes after half time, slotting in after being found by Shane McLoughlin's shot across goal.
Having offered little threat, Wigan suddenly made a game of it after scoring on 69 minutes. Akeel Higgins rattled a post from distance and Sonny Perkins was on hand to fire in the rebound.
The deficit was reduced to one four minutes later as a deep cross was nodded back across goal by Dara Costelloe, allowing Higgins to net from close range.
