It's a big game for Northern Ireland, they have to make sure they are tight, compact and well organised.

In attack we need to be brave, composed, and play with no fear because we have good players.

Our leaders need to show up too.

  15. NI squad has exciting future ahead - McKennapublished at 17:51 BST

Northern Ireland v Switzerland (18:00 BST)

Northern Ireland captain Rebecca McKenna said new manager Michael McArdle has "brought a breath of fresh air" since taking over at the helm.

McArdle started in the role on 1 April after being appointed in early March, and has won two of three games so far.

Following NI's defeat by Turkey in Istanbul on Friday, they can only finish third in Group B2. However, they have still secured a play-off spot for the 2027 World Cup in the autumn.

"We're still getting to know him and he's still getting to know us but, since he's come in, it's been a breath of fresh air," McKenna told BBC Sport NI.

"He's really bought into it and everyone here has also bought into it. It's exciting for the future.

"I think going forward, we all want to be at a major tournament. It is exciting and we've just got to put the work in. Hopefully, one day we'll get to experience that again."

McKenna is one of six players who were involved in the squad who made history by competing at Euro 2022.

Now, four years later, McKenna wants the side to push on and write their names in the history books once again.

"When we qualified for the Euros, it was a great feeling," she continued.

"You get a feeling of being at one major tournament. It gives you that feeling to get there again.

"Everyone's just got to put in the work and I know everyone will. Hopefully, one day we'll get the rewards."

Northern Ireland v Switzerland (18:00 BST)

Northern Ireland manager Michael McArdle said Tuesday's final World Cup qualifier against Switzerland is "a real opportunity to test ourselves".

McArdle's side are aiming to build momentum and continue to develop ahead of their upcoming World Cup play-off in the autumn.

NI will finish third in Group B2, but the Scot is keen that they push themselves when they welcome the group winners to Mourneview Park.

"We are looking forward to playing against Switzerland and also being back home at Mourneview in front of the home fans," McArdle told BBC Sport NI.

"Switzerland are one of the top nations at this point in time, they'll be strong favourites to qualify through the play-offs, so it gives us a real opportunity to test ourselves against a nation that's competing at the highest level."

  19. 'Plenty to learn' - McArdle after Turkey defeatpublished at 17:44 BST

Northern Ireland v Switzerland (18:00 BST)

Here is what Northern Ireland manager Michael McArdle had to say after their 2-1 defeat by Turkey in Istanbul.

"I think the first half is one that we need to reflect on, at half-time, the scoreline is 1-1 which I personally think is lucky for us," McArdle said.

"Unfortunately for us, another individual error, particularly in turnovers, so it's still that area that we need to refine and get much better at, is taking care of the ball.

"Particularly at times when there's not a lot of pressure and rushing some of our actions. There were far too many turnovers again."

"The positive side of it, Fi's first competitive debut and it's been a good, solid, strong performance from us, which I'm delighted about," he continued.

"Lots of players are getting involved, lots of young players. We came here to play an attacking style of football.

"Plenty to learn, but disappointed with the result."

  20. Callaghan fumes at call not to give Turkey red cardpublished at 17:41 BST

Northern Ireland v Switzerland (18:00 BST)

Former Northern Ireland captain Marissa Callaghan said that Turkey striker Busem Seker "had to be sent off" after she handled the ball before later scoring the winner in their 2-1 victory over Michael McArdle's side.

NI were trailing 1-0 in the closing stages of a quiet first half in Istanbul when the game sparked to life as Seker handled Fi Morgan's goalbound effort on the line.

The ball also appeared to strike the arm of Morgan, but referee Alexandra Collin quickly pointed to the spot and Northern Ireland expected a red card to follow.

However, the French official opted for a yellow, much to the frustration of the visitors and Callaghan, who was on co-commentary duties for the penultimate World Cup qualifier.

Their anger heightened just after the restart when Seker headed home Selen Altunkulak's cross in what proved to be the winning goal which secured the crucial three points and second spot for Turkey in Group B2.

"She has to be sent off for that - she literally saved it with her hand," Callaghan said on BBC iPlayer.

"It is a blatant handball, I think she thought she was in nets for a second. That is a penalty all day.

"You can see the relief on her face [when she is shown a yellow card]. Absolute madness."
