This week, I'll begin the update with a review of what's happening. | How the garden looked in April. |
For several years, staff and pupils at Walney School had hoped to build a garden, with a seaside theme, in a plot of land next to the Special Needs Department. They'd managed to raise some funds from various bodies, including the Friends Of The Lake District, but never had enough to employ gardeners to design and build it. Part of the BBC Voices Project is to help create a lasting legacy for the island, and this seemed to be the perfect project. Listen to Paul O'Neill's report on the progress to turn 3000 sq ft of wasteland into a garden to be proud of: Boat shipped in | Paul and Keith with the boat. |
This week saw the arrival of Gail's favourite item for the garden - a boat donated by Keith Newby who runs the boat hire company at the lake in Barrow Park. Eventually it will be spruced up and used as a quirky planter! Please help We need lots more volunteers. Just come and help for an hour if you can. Call Gail on 01228 474291 (or 07801 679757).
