Colby Bishop scored a rare goal as Portsmouth drew 2-2 with Blackburn Rovers in an entertaining Championship encounter at Fratton Park.

The hosts needed less than three and a half minutes to go ahead as Zak Swanson volleyed in a bouncing ball from the edge of the box.

But Rovers drew level soon after as Oladapo Afolayan found the bottom corner in an entertaining first quarter.

An error from Portsmouth goalkeeper Daniel Bielica let Rovers in for their second as Ryoya Morishita fired in right-footed into the bottom left corner.

But Bishop, who has been dropped to the bench after a barren run of just three goals in a year, came off the bench and scored for the first time since April as he headed in Ryan Kavuma-McQueen's shot.

The point leaves Blackburn in 16th place on nine points, two places and one point above Portsmouth, who have played one game fewer.

Blackburn's Todd Cantwell set the tone for the first quarter as he had a shot saved after just 22 seconds.

But it was Portsmouth who struck first as Jayden Meghoma's cross from the left was headed away by Sean McLoughlin straight to Swanson, whose controlled effort beat the unsighted Balazs Toth in the Blackburn goal.

The lead lasted less than seven minutes as Harry Pickering found Afolayan on the left corner of penalty area and the former St Pauli attacker got around Marlon Pack before his low right-footed effort beat Bielica at his near post.

Impressive Chelsea loanee Kavuma-McQueen could have put Pompey ahead four minutes before the break as he pounced on Toth's weak pass out to his defence, but Blackburn's Hungarian goalkeeper did well to get a hand to the 17-year-old's powerful left-footed strike.

The hosts started the second half well and Kavuma-McQueen saw a 54th-minute shot palmed out by Toth before Pack's follow-up was deflected wide.

But that good work was undone three minutes later when Bielica's poor clearance was cut out by Kristi Montgomery before Japan's Morishita got the ball on the right of the box and fired in across the face of goal to give Blackburn the lead.

However, Kavuma-McQueen was among the action for the equaliser as he collected the ball on the right of the penalty area and spun his marker, before his powerful strike was turned in by Bishop's head.

Meghoma almost won it for the hosts in stoppage time, but Toth did well to save his effort.

Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent:

"Ultimately we're really frustrated in there that we haven't won the game.

"The two goals that we concede are really poor and entirely preventable, particularly the second one where we shot ourselves in the foot.

"On the balance of chances in the game we had some really good opportunities and didn't put the ball in the back of the net.

"But to go 2-1 down we went a bit flat after that, but we got back in the game really well and at the back end I think a little bit more quality in certain areas and we do punish them.

"It's one that we wouldn't have taken before the game, but in the circumstances of going a goal behind we have to settle for the point and move on."

Blackburn Rovers head coach Tony Mowbray told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"A bit of frustration around it really, we got ourselves in front and we should have been able to see that game out.

"I just think we're a bit patchy at the moment; at our best in our moments we look like a really good football team.

"But I felt we probably showed them too much respect today. We allowed them to build into our attacking third too easily.

"I'm frustrated, but it's a point away at Portsmouth which is never an easy place to come to with the atmosphere that the supporters create.

"We have to get better, it wasn't a top performance from us, slightly below par I think."
