Lisa Baum scored on her Arsenal debut as the Gunners won at Brighton in the Women's Super League.

With 10 minutes played, the 19-year-old glided through the Brighton defence at Broadfield Stadium and rifled home via the crossbar at the near post to make the prefect start to her Arsenal career.

Baum, who joined the Gunners from RB Leipzig in the summer, made her debut alongside fellow new faces goalkeeper Misa Rodriguez, defender Ona Battle and midfielder Georgia Stanway.

Alessia Russo should have doubled Arsenal's lead soon after Baum's strike but blazed over with the goal wide open.

Brighton had chances to level, with Kiko Seike's strike well saved by Misa Rodriguez and Fran Kirby's volley from close range flying over the bar, while Charlie Rule was unable to find the top corner from the edge of the box.

Arsenal substitute Stina Blackstenius nearly wrapped the game up but Brighton goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie got a strong hand to an effort headed for the bottom corner and pushed it behind.

It was just Brighton's second defeat in their opening fixture in the last eight WSL seasons.

It wasn't pretty but Arsenal secured a crucial three points to kick off their league campaign.

Baum, one of eight new signings, was lively in attack and scored the only goal in an edgy game.

While they could have scored more, Renee Slegers' side will be pleased to seal victory at a ground where they failed to win in the past two WSL seasons.

Slegers said there is a "real hunger" for Arsenal to win the title for the first time in seven years and in a weekend when rivals Chelsea dropped points, the Gunners started as they mean to go on.

They host newly promoted Crystal Palace and then Manchester United in their next two league fixtures.
