Huddersfield Town's victory at lunchtime over rock-bottom Wigan Athletic, coupled with Stockport County's draw at Notts County, has sent the Terriers to the summit in League One.

Stockport drop to second but remain above Bradford City who could only draw themselves on the road at Oxford United.

Plymouth Argyle's win away from home puts them up to fourth while Cambridge United drop to sixth.

Barnsley's defeat at Reading puts them second-bottom and Bromley conceded late on to fellow strugglers Peterborough to drop two points at home.

League One delivered once more this afternoon - here's some of the headlines from today's action in the third tier.

Huddersfield Town have gone top of the division after their relatively straight forward 2-1 victory against rock-bottom Wigan Athletic.

Stockport County drop to second but picked up a decent point on the road at Notts County.

Plymouth Argyle are up to fourth after being Cambridge United in a five-goal thriller 3-2.

Peterborough scored a 93rd minute equaliser to grab a point at Bromley and Burton Albion came from behind to beat Leyton Orient 2-1.

It was another disappointing day for Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester City who both lost away from home today, at Doncaster and Luton respectively, while Mansfield Town picked up a handsome win on the road at Blackpool.

AFC Wimbledon shared the spoils with Wycombe Wanderers, Oxford United's match with Bradford City ended goalless, while MK Dons picked up a much needed three points with a 1-0 win at Stevenage.

And finally, Barnsley remain bang in trouble. A 2-1 defeat at Reading this afternoon leaves them second-bottom of the table.

  4. Deja vu for Crewepublished at 17:21 BST 24 October

    FT: Chesterfield 5-1 Crewe

    Tom Gayle
Final Score at SMH Group Stadium

Paul Cook's side's biggest victory since winning 5-0, at Crewe, two years ago.

2-0 up after six minutes, and no way back for the visitors, who after starting the season eleven unbeaten, have now suffered back to back defeats.

The only caution of the game was issued to Crewe boss Lee Bell, who ensured all his players and coaching staff went over to acknowledge those supporters who had remained in the away end after a first half horror show.

Pedersen has to go, just an absolute waste of an opportunity. Proper shambles, appreciate the attempt but an abject failure.

  6. Bees not buzzing but Cheltenham on the movepublished at 17:17 BST 24 October

Although not in action, the leaders Salford will have enjoyed Oldham's last minute equaliser against Barnet meaning the Ammies can extend their lead with a win at Walsall on Monday night.

Cheltenham's lunchtime win over Newport lifts them into the automatic promotion places while Chesterfield's 5-1 hammering of Crewe moves them into the top seven.

Bottom side Crawley managed a point but remain marooned at the foot of the table but these are worrying times for Port Vale, Rotherham, Colchester and Oldham.

  7. League Two headlinespublished at 17:13 BST 24 October

There were plenty of goals in our 3pm League Two matches...

Chesterfield battered Crewe 5-1, scoring all their goals in the first half.

It was also a five-star performance from Accrington who beat Rochdale 5-0 to move within one point of the play offs.

Rotherham and Shrewsbury played out a thrilling 3-3 draw during which they each had a player sent off.

There was a very late goal (90+4!) from Mike Fondop as Oldham drew 1-1 against Barnet.

Dylan Morgan was on the scoresheet as bottom side Crawley were held 1-1 by Tranmere.

There were three goals scored in the space of six minutes as Exeter beat Fleetwood 2-1.

Gillingham managed to get back level in the first half against Grimsby, before the visitors went and scored three more to make it 4-1.

York easily dispatched Port Vale 2-0, thanks to goals from Zak Johnson and 35-year-old Jack Hunt.

  8. 'Brilliant performance' from Rovers in derbypublished at 17:09 BST 24 October

    FT: Doncaster 2-0 Sheff Wed

    Lee Turnbull
Former Doncaster player on BBC Radio Sheffield

In a derby game, Wednesday never laid a glove on Rovers in the first half.

Second half was quite different but Doncaster goalkeeper Tommy Simkin made a handful of inspired saves.

Grant McCann will be exceptionally pleased with the team spirit and desire to go and win the game today. A brilliant performance.

  9. 'Constant comeback attempts are unsustainable'published at 17:05 BST 24 October

    FT: Cambridge 2-3 Plymouth

    Nathan Albon
    BBC Radio Cambridgeshire commentator

Cambridge just gave themselves too much work to do going two goals down early in the second half.

There was plenty of time left when they pulled one back but then at 3-1 it seemed done and dusted.

Shayne Lavery then came on and made a difference to pull one back but they left it a little bit too late scoring four minutes from time.

All of these comebacks after going behind are completely unsustainable for The U's moving forward.

  10. 'A hell of a game' despite goalless drawpublished at 17:00 BST 24 October

    FT: Oxford 0-0 Bradford

    Jerome Sale
    BBC Radio Oxford commentator

It's been a hell of a game. You would have got short odds on goalless draw here.

There were enough chances in this game from both sides and it shouldn't have ended up being 0-0.

Oxford United keep racking up the points and that's all they can do.

  11. 'It's Doncaster's day in the derby'published at 16:59 BST 24 October

    FT: Doncaster 2-0 Sheff Wed

    Rob Staton
    Commentator on BBC Radio Sheffield

It's Doncaster's day in the derby. Two goals from star man Owen Bailey.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pederson will be incredibly worried about what might come next for him.

    Doncaster 2-0 Sheff Wed

A sixth win in eight league games for Doncaster against their South Yorkshire rivals.

Skipper Owen Bailey's early double gets the job done but they have goalkeeper Tommy Simkin to thank for preventing a Wednesday comeback with a series of good saves in the second half.

A second successive defeat for the Owls.

  13. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:54 BST 24 October

    Cambridge United 2-3 Plymouth

A big, big three points for Tom Cleverley's side on the road.

The visitors took the lead after Louis Appere put through his own net after a threatening corner from Xavier Amaechi.

Argyle doubled their lead through Harvey White and Bim Pepple restored Argyle's two goal cushion from the penalty spot after Sullay Kaikai initially pulled a goal back for Cambridge.

Shayne Lavery's deft header made it a grandstand finish but Argyle held on in tricky conditions to get back to winning ways and leapfrog their opponents up to fourth in League One.

  14. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:53 BST 24 October

    Chesterfield 5-1 Crewe

    ChesterfieldImage source, Shutterstock

Crewe have been completely dismantled in Derbyshire.

Chesterfield flew out of the traps as Josh Koroma tapped home a low cross inside three minutes. Shortly afterwards Tom Naylor finished from close range, and Fraser Bryden got on the scoresheet in the 19th minute.

Crewe did score in the first half, but it was Joshua Stephenson, and that was into his own net. Liam Mandeville made it five before half-time. The second half saw a raft of changes by Lee Bell to see if his players could be rallied, and they got one back through Charlie McNeil, but that was all they could manage.

For Chesterfield, they sail into the play-off spots.

For Crewe, they will be wondering how they have managed to go unbeaten all season until Tuesday, only to lose two on the trot.

    Alarm bells? Maybe.

  15. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:52 BST 24 October

    Oxford 0-0 Bradford

Bradford boss Michael DuffImage source, Shutterstock

Oxford go seven unbeaten in the league and Bradford make it eight without defeat after a game where neither side could make the most of their chances.

Gatlin O'Donkor wasted the best opportunities for the home side while Kayden Jackson was inches from winning it for the Bantams who have still only conceded five League One goals this season.
