Enzo Fernandez is a man who costs a pretty penny.

Fernandez has cost £230m in his past two moves and will become the first ever footballer to complete two £100m+ moves. That is a decent bit of money.

However, he brings with him a wealth of top-level experience.

At only 25, Fernandez has already racked up 285 league appearances across the Argentinian, Portuguese and English top-flights, as well as playing 49 times so far for his country.

He has won the World Cup and Copa America with Argentina and major silverware in every country he has played - most recently winning the Club World Cup with Chelsea in 2025.

The Argentine midfielder came on as a substitute in Chelsea's opening game against Fulham but has not been included in Xabi Alonso's squad for their next two games.

BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club discussed Manchester City's late move for Chelsea's £125m-rated Enzo Fernandez, despite already signing midfielders Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi this summer.

Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton added: "It is about having the strongest squad to give them the best possible chance of challenging. The money really doesn't matter."

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock agreed, stating: "If your director of football is saying 'I can give you this player' then you don't need to care about the fee.

"The fee is irrelevant as long as the club has agreed to get the player through the door."

Enzo Maresca said he would make a decision on his leadership group at Manchester City when the transfer window had closed.

The Italian boss made Enzo Fernandez captain at Chelsea and it's likely his leadership qualities have played a large part in Maresca's desire to get this deal over the line.

City's current captains are defender Ruben Dias and striker Erling Haaland. Will Fernandez come in as the main man?

As it stands Premier League clubs are just £13m away from breaking the all-time summer transfer record.

English top-flight clubs have already pushed beyond the £3bn barrier with spending close to breaking the record of £3.14bn from 12 months ago.

Four of the 11 most expensive signings in the history of football have happened this summer – with three of them being Premier League signings.

Chelsea's £117m signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa and Manchester City's £116m spend on Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson are the two most expensive British players ever.

And Liverpool paid an initial £106m, which could rise to £123m, for Paris St-Germain and France forward Bradley Barcola.

It looks like that record could be smashed before tonight's 23:00 BST deadline with Enzo Fernandez's move to City taking spending way over the record.

We know that new Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca has been very keen on reuniting with his former Chelsea player Enzo Fernandez.

Chelsea set a deadline for clubs to sign the Argentine several weeks ago but the deadline passed with no deal struck.

But it looks like City have finally got their man and they will be hoping the midfielder can go some way to plugging a gap in the middle of the park following the departures of Rodri and Bernardo Silva this summer.

Fernandez joins Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi in a very new-look midfield for Maresca's side.

Chelsea and Manchester City have been negotiating the deal for Enzo Fernandez over the past 24 hours and have now reached an agreement.

Fernandez will now undergo a medical ahead of signing a long-term deal at the Etihad Stadium. Personal terms will not be an issue.

Will Chelsea miss Enzo Fernandez? Well, he's not started any of their two Premier League games this season - both ending in Chelsea wins.

But Malo Gusto was forced to start in the middle next to Romeo Lavia in Sunday's win over Brighton, with Moises Caicedo picking up another injury.

So he's cost £230m in his past two moves.

That's a decent bit of money.

So, that is a joint-British record transfer fee.

It's the same Liverpool paid Newcastle for Alexander Isak on this very day last year.

Is Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara the one to replace Enzo Fernandez - if he is to leave, of course.

Liverpool had been linked with the 22-year-old but it seems like it could be another midfielder heading to West London rather than Merseyside.

Chelsea goalkeeper Rob Sanchez has been filmed arriving in Milan ahead of a medical before his proposed move to Italian club Como 1907.

The 28-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements following an error-strewn display in Chelsea's opening Premier League match of the season at Fulham.

Chelsea signed Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez as his replacement within days in a deal worth £7.5m.

The move to Como, managed by former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, is an initial loan deal with an option to make the transfer permanent.

The Italian club are also due to compete in the Champions League this season.

Hang fire, we do have news of a departure from Chelsea.

But it's not Enzo...
